Betty Quinn, 89, Published October 28, 2009
Betty (Bessie) Quinn, 89 of New Lisbon, Janesville and Wonewoc, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, under the kindness and compassion shown at Crest View. She is the fourth child of the late Frances (Herd) and Charles Bell of Liverpool, England.
After grammar school Betty worked for a custom seamstress business. At the age of 22 she enlisted in the British Air Force having served three years in censorship record keeping. While in England she met Charles Francis Quinn to whom she married Nov. 3, 1945, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Liverpool. Betty arrived in the United States aboard the steamship Holbrook in April 1946 to reside with her husband on a dairy farm in Wonewoc. They were members of St. Jerome's Catholic Church throughout their 44 years of marriage.
Betty enjoyed caring for her home, family and countless hours of knitting keepsakes for family and friends. Time for tea, laughter and dancing were welcome too. Her amiable nature awarded her countless friendships. May her memory be blessed.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters; four brothers; daughter-in-law, Linda (Young) Quinn; and brother-in-law, William Ennis.
She is survived by a brother in North Wales; a sister-in-law, Anira Ennis of Kenosha; sons, Phil Quinn of Mauston, Michael (Barb) Quinn of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; daughters, Janice (Tom) Gauckler of Caledonia, Donna (Ron) Wesley of Mauston, Charlene Olson of Elroy, Marsha (John) Melgard of Janesville; eight grandchildren, Renate Gray, Nick Wesley, Robin Wesley, Kelly Olson, Eric (Lisa) Olson, Charles (Andrea) Gray, Amber (Marques) Golden, Cody Biermeier; seven step-grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and shirttail as well. Grand cats and dogs too.
Funeral services for Betty Quinn will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in the Thompson Funeral 402 Center Street, Wonewoc, with Fr. Dick Dickman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Theresa's Catholic Cemetery in Union Center. Friends may call on Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
