Marvin Dennis Licht, 59, Published October 28, 2009

Marvin Dennis Licht, 59 of North Freedom, went peacefully to be with his Lord on Oct. 22, 2009, after a 15-month battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor. He was born June 24, 1950, to Marvin H. and Ruth (Shimniok) Licht. He was a 1968 graduate of Baraboo High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1972. He resided in North Freedom all of his life but loved to travel, especially on his motorcycle. One of his greatest enjoyments in life was riding his cycle - whether it was a short ride with the local motorcycle club or a cross-country tour. He especially enjoyed the Three-Flags America tours starting in Mexico and ending in Canada. Other hobbies included photography, ultra-light airplane flying, canoeing, jet boating, downhill skiing, bicycling - every opportunity for an adventure, Marv enjoyed. On his farm he loved raising animals and was always willing to help friends, neighbors and family with questions and troubles. In recent years he prized his beef cow/calf herd.

He was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo and also enjoyed the annual summer campouts of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Freedom.

Survivors include, his mother, Ruth of North Freedom; brother, Dan (Judy) Licht of North Freedom; two sisters, Shirley (Jim) Roecker of Reedsburg and Linda (Ron) Green of Menasha; as well as many outstanding relatives and friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral Services will be held today, Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo with Pastor Thomas Fricke officiating. Burial will follow in the Kingston Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. in Baraboo and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Freedom or the UW-Madison Paul C. Carbone Cancer Center for Brain Cancer/Tumor Research.
