Don G. Vogel, 55 of Ironton, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 4, 1955, in Reedsburg, the son of Fred Albert and Lorraine Marie (Backman) Vogel.  Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. On Jan. 3, 1981, Don was united in marriage to Katherine M. Simon.  This marriage was blessed with six children. Don was employed at NUK USA, formerly, Gerber, for 30.5 years and also worked part-time for Lands' End and Addison. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was honored to serve with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team where he was trained in mud out, assisting flood victims in the Reedsburg area in June and July of 2008. Don was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed watching the Packers.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Elizabeth Vogel; and son, Jeremiah Vogel, all of Ironton; mother, Lorraine Vogel of Reedsburg; mother-in-law, Joan Simon of Reedsburg; brothers and sisters, Karen Vogel of Wauwatosa, Aurella (Marv) Gurgel of Rock Springs, Carl (Brenda) Vogel of Reedsburg, Debra (Rollie) Peetz of North Freedom, John Vogel of Reedsburg, Eunice (Bryon) Lonetree of Middleton, Andrew (Linda) Vogel of Appleton, David (Cat) Vogel of Northwood, Iowa, Gale (Linda) Vogel of Portage, Emilie (Larry) Miller of Reedsburg, Dot (Ed) Poff of Mauston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jody Simon of Baraboo, Paul Simon Jr. of Reedsburg, Bruce (Julie) Simon Sr. of Reedsburg, David Simon of Reedsburg; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Rebecca Anne and Tanya Vogel; sons, Adam and Stephen Vogel; father, Fred Albert Vogel; and father-in-law, Paul J. Simon Sr.

Funeral services for Don G. Vogel will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Trinity Baptist Church in Reedsburg with Pastor Michael Lopp and Ben Seamans co-officiating.  

Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Reedsburg, with military honors conducted by the Reedsburg VFW Post 1916. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Farber Funeral Home and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance may be made to the family for an educational fund, which will be established for Don's children, or to the charity of one's choice.
