REEDSBURG—Despite a total of 15 first place efforts between them, both the Reedsburg boys and girls track teams lost to DeForest Tuesday.
In their only home track meet of the year, Tyler Archambo set a new RAHS school record in the pole vault as he cleared 12 feet even, and also won the 100 meter dash, with Matt Hartje taking second place. Tyler Mazur cleared 6'2" to win the high jump and Dan Brown was third, Mikey Turner won the 3200 run in 10:46 while Riley Olson was third. Matt Rockweiler was second in the 110 high hurdles and the 300 intermediate as well.
The 4x100 and the 4x200 relay teams both won their races. Zach Meyer, Corey Brey, Tyler Mazur and Nick Kokenzie turned in a 1:35.3 in the 4x200, just edging the DeForest team by three tenths of a second. The 4x100 team of Meyer, Archambo, Brown and Hartje turned in a 46.32, and like the 4x200 team, also edged the Norskies by a hair, with DeForest turning in a 46.33.
Chris Schuenke won both the 800 (2:05) and the 1600 (4:36.5) and also anchored the 4x400 team that finished second. The 4x400 race, the last event of the day, virtually decided the outcome of the meet as the Norskies held just a three point lead at 70-67 going into the final race, but picked up five points for the win while Reedsburg was awarded three points for placing second, giving DeForest a 75-70 win.
Girls lose 78-68
Despite seven top finishes for the girls, the Norskies won the meet by basically not allowing the Beavers to sweep any of the events, and placing first in 11 of them.
"On Tuesday Alex Stark and Katie Hahn had career PRs. Alex set personal records in the 100m and 200m dashes and Katie in the long jump. TeAnn made 5'5" on her 4th jump. She, along with Kate Hasler and Sara Holmen hold the high jump school record at 5'4"," said coach Amy Schultz.
The Reedsburg 4x800 relay team of Rachel Hasler, Katie Hahn, Nichelle Roessler and Katelynn Diske won in a time of 10:37.74. Caitey Craker won the 110 high hurdles but the Norskies took second and third. In the 1600 Maddy Roznos had little trouble as she turned in a 5:41, winning by 10 seconds.
The 4x200 relay team of Bethany Meyer, Sarah Carroll, TeAnn Harms and Alex Stark also won. Stark then won the 200 and Rachel Hasler won the 3200 with Sophie Roznos placing second, and Harms turned a high jump of 5'2" for top honors.
But the Norskies then dominated the rest of the field events, winning the Long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus and pole vault.
