Sr. Legion falls in 1st game at regionals

HOLMEN—The Reedsburg senior legion team suffered a 3-2 loss to Onalaska in their first game at the AA regional at Holmen Thursday. Onalaska scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning off Travis Schrank after Reedsburg had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
Onalaska pitcher Kyle Stewart had little trouble with Reedsburg thru the first three innings, but Reedsburg tagged Stewart for a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Mike Huber led off the inning with a walk. After Zach Downing and Dillon Berg struck out, Ethan Dempsey reached on an error on Onalaska shortstop Jordan Tredennick and Huber moved to third. Alex Schmitt followed with a single to left to score Huber, and Dempsey scored on the play when the left fielder booted the ball for an error.
Onalaska got a run back in their half of the inning as Tyler Adams singled, James Knutson walked and Zach Knutson singled to score James Knutson. The score stayed at 2-1 the rest of the game. Stewart gave up a single to Justin Huinker in the fifth and another base hit to Zach Downing in the sixth, and Travis Schrank matched Stewart as he shut down Onalaska, giving up a base hit to Stewart in the sixth, a base hit to Andy Mills in the fifth. Reedsburg came to bat clinging to the 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh, and Stewart shut down Reedsburg, striking out Matt Kneeland and Lucas Farber and getting Jeramy Greenwood to ground out to second.
The bottom of the seventh turned into a fielding nightmare for Reedsburg.
Jordan Tredennick reached on an error on Zach Downing and moved to second on the play. Brandon Rude singled to left and Tredennick moved to third. AJ Mick grounded to Farber at second, but an error on Farber allowed Mick to reach first. Pinch runner Taylor Steel moved to second and Tredennick scored on the play to tie the game. Mick moved to second on a passed ball and Andy Mills followed with a walk, and Tyler Adams singled to left scoring Steel with the game winner.
Kyle Stewart got the win of Onalaska, striking out 11 and giving up just three hits in the game while Travis Schrank, despite a fine effort on the mound with two strikeouts and three walks, took the loss for Reedsburg, who was scheduled to play Baraboo at noon Friday. The Bandits lost to Sauk Prairie 6-0 Thursday.
