Local youth awarded scholarship

Ben Morlan of Reedsburg has been awarded a $100 swim scholarship to Swim Reedsburg.

Ben wrote an outstanding essay and was picked as the top qualifier for the scholarship. Ben has elected to use his scholarship towards Swim Reedsburg's Explorer Camp which takes place Aug 11-15. At the camp Ben and other local youth will learn how to snorkel, how to create and read a map, how to make and use a compass, and how to use and operate a GPS receiver.

With the GPS, Ben and the others will go geocaching around Swim Reedsburg and then create their own geocache. (Geocaching is a treasure hunting game using the GPS.) In addition to the outdoor exploring. Ben and the campers receive two hours of swim instruction each day! Some of the swim activities include searching the depths of the pool for treasures and snorkeling.
