Hillsboro scored 28 first quarter points and took a 43-8 lead into halftime as the Tigers hammered Weston 65-14 Friday night at Hillsboro. Hillsboro's Gavin Zimmerman rushed for 156 yards on just nine carries, including touchdown runs of 85 and 62 yards in the fourth quarter.

Weston Coach Marty Richards said that "Hillsboro is a senior led team that was one game from playing for a state championship last year and return much of that team. We are exact opposites as far as experience and development are concerned and that usually makes for an unusually bad combination for the young, inexperienced, team and that was the case on Friday. At times we had that 'deer in the headlights look' that you can expect from a young team, we now know what it feels like to play a top quality team, came out of it healthy, and now know what it takes to play at that level."

Pat Alexander scored three touchdowns in the first quarter for the Tigers on runs of three, 36 and 34 yards and Tony Mlsna added a 57 yard touchdown run and a 66 yard punt return.

The Silver Eagles' Jason McGlynn got Weston on the board as he hauled in a 42 yard pass from Caleb Arneson for Weston's first score, and Nate Duren added a 60 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the 65-14 final. Richards added "We are a young, inexperienced team, starting five sophomores, with only one returning starter on offense with experience at his current position, and two defensive players that have experience at their position. We will need our young men to learn and develop in varsity play and do not have the luxury of letting them play two or three years on the junior varsity side of the ball," Richards said.

Weston will host their home opener Friday night when Wonewoc-Center travels to Cazenovia. "I look for our group to improve every game we play, after watching the film with the team last night they could see small changes that would result in much different results in many situations. This week we will work very hard on becoming a more aggressive defense and work hard on finishing plays on both sides of the ball," said the coach.

Wonewoc lost to North Crawford 26-22 Friday night.
