RAHS volleyball second at Monroe

Hoping to challenge for a conference championship this season and looking to improve on 24-6 overall record, the Reedsburg varsity volleyball team opened up play Saturday at the Monroe Invitational. At the end of the day coach Amy Schultz and her team finished up with a 4-1 record, losing only to Wisconsin heights, who went undefeated at the invite. "We had a good day in Monroe. I thought the team played extremely well in its first tournament of the season," Schultz said.

The Beavers beat Baraboo 25-21, 25-21 to open up the day, and followed that with a 26-24, 25-18 win over the host Cheesemakers. The Beavers loss to Wisconsin Heights was by 20-25 and 12-25 scores. The Vanguards are the defending Capitol South conference champions who were ranked #3 in the state in D3 at the end of last season, and are led by senior outside hitter Hillary Hughes, a 2007 all state honorable mention pick. RAHs added wins over madison West (25-20, 25-20) and Mineral Point (25-22, 24-26, 15-12) to round out the day. Senior TeAnn Harms finished theday with 39 kills and ws named to the all-tournament team, and Katt Schulenberg had 18 kills, 48 assists and 6 ace serves, while Sarah Chrabaszcz led the team with 17 digs. Harms, a 2007 1st team all-conference pick with 206 kills, will be looked upon to step into a leadership roll, along with Schulenberg, who finished last season with 683 assists.

After traveling to Baraboo Tuesday, the Beavers will host Sauk Prairie in their home opener.
