MERRIMAC - Despite a 15:04 from Brea Goodman and a 15:32 from Dakota Goodman, the Reedsburg girls failed to win their third straight conference championship Saturday at the Badger North cross country meet at Devils Head Resort. The Goodman's placed first and fourth, but the Mount Horeb/Barneveld girls placed six runners in the top 20 to win the conference title with 50 team points. Brea Goodman won the individual championship, beating Ashley Schoenoff of Baraboo by nine full seconds and Dakota Goodman edged Denise Leaver of Baraboo by three seconds for fourth place.

But it was the Vikings that turned in a solid team effort. Led by junior Elizabeth Mackler, who placed third overall, Mount Horeb/Barneveld added a sixth place effort by Meleana Bennin, a 10th place finish by Kelsey Clausen, while Lillie Esser and Austyn Potterton placed 15th and 16th overall. Katelynn Diske placed 14th for the Beavers and Arissa Michel was 21st, with Rebecca Lavely finishing 25th and Rachel Hasler 33rd.

Karen Molberg and Amanda Kinsman were named the Reedsburg athletes of the meet. Both ran strong on a tough course according to coach Nicole Bruer, and both have been jockeying all season long, pushing each other and finishing seconds apart at most meets.
