Soccer falls to Edgewood
The Madison Edgewood Crusaders improved their overall record to 14-4 with a 7-3 win at Reedsburg Monday over the Beavers.
The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead just 4:18 into the game on a goal by junior Jake Owen, but Cam Bauer tied the game up with a Beaver goal two minutes later. Owen then got an assist on a goal by Jamison Schleicher at the 12:30 mark, and the teams battled the rest of the first half with score staying 2-1.
The teams then scored four goals in the first five minutes of the second half. The barrage started when Owen scored his second goal less than two minutes into the second half to put Edgewood up 3-1, and Tim O'Brien scored 32 seconds later for a 4-1 Edgewood lead. But the Beavers answered with back-to-back goals by Marcus Schroeder and Marco Gonzalez to cut the lead to 4-3 at the 45:06 mark.
Edgewood then sealed the win with three straight goals. Stephen Gilbert scored in the 54th minute, the Beavers gave up an own goal with 19 minutes left and Ju Young Han added the seventh and final goal with 1:49 left to play.
Reedsburg will now begin tournament play Thursday. The Beavers have been given the #15 seed in the Middleton sectional, and will travel to Madison Thursday to play at Madison Memorial, the #2 seed at 5 p.m.
Madison West is the #1 seed and will host #16 Holmen, Baraboo is seeded 13th and will travel south to take on #4 seeded Verona.
