With their win over Pewaukee the Beavers will now face another strong team in the Jefferson Eagles.
Reedsburg will play at Jefferson at 4 p.m. Saturday, and will face a Jefferson team that shared first place in the Northern Rock Valley Conference with McFarland with a 6-1 conference record. Under head coach Steve Gee the Eagles feature a strong running attack led by senior running back Pete Linse, and Thomas Scherer, a three year starter at left tackle.
Linse, who stands at 5'9" and is just 155 pounds, has rushed for 1,621 yards and 20 touchdowns in 11 games. That includes 241 yards and four scores in a 34-28 win against Mount Horeb last Saturday.
Coach Brian Pottinger said that "Jefferson will be very similar to Pewaukee with the style of offense they run and they will do it mostly out of a double tight formation. The problem they will present is the fact that their splits are very tight and they get four to five lead blockers in front of the ball carrier almost every play. Linse is a very good back and he's not real big, so sometimes he can be difficult to find behind all those blockers. They will run play action passes and will try to beat you deep. Their tight ends get out on the routes very quickly so you have to be careful not to sell out too much on stopping the run."
The Eagles have averaged 35.5 points per game on their way to a 10-1 record, and have allowed just 134 points in 11 games. Their only loss of the season came to Walworth Big Foot Sept. 18 as the Chiefs won their 23rd straight regular season game with a 14-7 win over the Eagles. Senior defensive back Tyler Tomczak is the leader on defense, which returns just three starters from last season, but has allowed just 12 points per game.
