Sauk Prairie came one point short of winning the title at the Northern Exposure Tournament in Merrill on Dec. 28.

The Eagles finished second out of eight teams in the White Pool, finishing with a 4-1 dual record after losing to De Pere in the championship.

Two Rivers went 5-0 to win the Blue Pool, beating out second-place Bay Port (4-1).

Sauk Prairie wasn’t tested in the opening rounds. The Eagles got the event started with a dominant 71-0 win over Manawa before notching a 59-15 win over Merrill, a 52-16 win over Waukesha South and a 54-18 win over Port Washington to reach the White Pool championship.

Sauk Prairie ran into a tough De Pere team in the title match. The teams went toe-to-toe, with the Redbirds eventually pulling out a 34-33 win to improve to 5-0 on the day.

A trio of Eagles went unbeaten in the tournament, as Zeke Smith went 5-0 at 120 pounds, Gavin Lankey went 5-0 at 132 pounds, and Jesse Huerth went 4-0 between 138 pounds and 145 pounds.

The Eagles, who are 12-2 in duals this season, will look to remain unbeaten in Badger North Conference action when they host Waunakee on Friday.
