MERRIMAC — The COLSAC III ferry, which serves as a connection of Highway 113 across Lake Wisconsin, was reopened to traffic after 6:30 p.m. Friday after it had unexpectedly been closed for maintenance.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation sent a bulletin at 9:35 a.m. Friday that the ferry would not be operational. A follow-up bulletin sent at 6:37 p.m. indicated the maintenance work was complete.

In season the free ferry, which serves as Highway 113 across the Wisconsin River, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week between Okee in Columbia County and Merrimac in Sauk County.

The ferry runs when the river is free of ice. The craft holds 15 vehicles and accommodates bicycles and pedestrians.
