Now to Oct. 18
• Duane Brissette is the next artist to inhabit the River Arts Gallery in Prairie du Sac with his style of narrative surrealism from now to Oct. 18. An opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17. The exhibit is available during school hours.
Now to Nov. 15
• Cleaner by Nature in Sauk City is collecting basic winter necessities during the "A Gift of Warmth" campaign now through Nov. 15. The company is collecting gently used coats, snow pants, mittens, or hats along with other winter items. Items will be collected at Cleaner by Nature, 823 Phillips Boulevard in Sauk City or the St. Vincent de Paul store in Prairie du Sac. Everything will be cleaned and delivered to the Sauk Prairie School District to be given to local families in need. For more information, call 643-7300.
Oct. 2, 9, 16 and 23
• Community Business Bank, Sauk City and Lodi, is offering free business breakfast seminars at its Sauk City location from 7:45 to 9 a.m. Oct. 2, 9, 16 and 23. This is a four-part seminar series on topics for today's business environment. The discussions are as follows: customer service, options in healthcare insurance coverage, networking basics and recruiting - "You can have a dream team." Oct. 2 and 4
• First Presbyterian Church will have a brat stand from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 2 and 4 in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot. Proceeds will go to the Ryan King fund.
Oct. 4, 11, 18 and Oct. 25
• Dance lessons for the country two-step is from noon to 1:15 p.m. Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at Park Hall, 307 Polk St. in Sauk City. The cost is $54 per person or $98 for two people. To register, call 643-3488.
Oct. 3
• Gray Rock Toy Run will be Oct. 3. All vehicles are welcome this year and can meet at 10:30 a.m. in the Eagle Plaza Parking lot in Sauk City. Area resident participating should bring an unwrapped toy or a $10 donation. No stuffed animals. All toys will be delivered to the Caring Tree, St. Vincent's de Paul in Prairie du Sac. After delivering the toys there will be a fall color ride to Captain's II in Leland were there is free chili served from noon until gone. For more information, call 643-2862.
• Sauk Prairie River PAL is sponsoring a Wisconsin River canoe trip fundraiser Oct. 3. Registration is at 8 a.m. and canoes will be launched from the Mazomanie town park by Blackhawk River Runs Canoe Rentals. Suggested donation is $10. Lunch will be on a sandbar for $5 or canoers can bring their own. To make a reservation visit www.spriverpal.org. Reminder to canoers no glass containers are allowed on the river and bring sunscreen lotion, mosquito repellent and rain coat.
• The Sauk Prairie Marching Band begins competition at 3 p.m. at the Wisconsin Lutheran School and at 8 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Greendale High School. The band will showcase its, "Miss Saigon" performance. Other competitions are Oct. 11 at Fort Atkinson and the state marching band competition at Whitewater on Oct. 17.
• Sauk Prairie Music Association will host its first Bingo night at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 in the St. Aloysius School gym. The event will take place now through Aug. 7, 2010. An initial packet of 15 sheets of six cards will be sold for $15 or one sheet of six cards will cost $1. The minimum prize per game is $10 but the actual prize money is determined by the number of participants. The more participants there are, the larger the prize money. All proceeds go to SPMA for the continuing development of Sauk Prairie music programs.
Oct. 4
• The Ecumenical community in Merrimac will have a Merrimac Market on the west side of the Ferry line on Highway 113 from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 sponsored by the United Methodist Church of Merrimac. Proceeds from this event will go to projects at the church. There will also be donations taken to benefit the Merrimac Ecumenical Crisis Clergy Fund and food pantry.
Oct. 6
• Prairie du Sac Fire Department will host an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 6 at the fire station, 855 North 17th St. in Prairie du Sac in honor of Fire Prevention Week. The department personnel will offer fire truck rides, safety demonstrations, and tours of the department and equipment.
• Memories of the Town of West Point will be presented by Dale and Joe (Jodie) Ryan from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the West Point Town Hall, Highway 188 and Rausch Road. The program will feature pictures, recollections and memories of growing up in the Town of West Point. The Ryans will talk about life on the farm in the 1930's-50's as well as the first bus service for West Point school children started by their parents, Mildred Cole Ryan and Joe Sr.
Oct. 7
• The Sauk City Fire Department Open House is from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 2 at the fire station 505 Van Buren St. in Sauk City. There will be fire truck rides, Culver's custard, activities for children and fire station tours.
Oct. 22
• Sauk Prairie VFW Post No. 7694 will be hosting a preventative health event for local residents on Oct. 22. It is offered by Life Line Screening and will be at the VFW Hall in Prairie du Sac. There are four vascular screening that take about an hour and the cost is $149. To make an appointment, call 888-653-6441.

• The Community Business Bank will host a free seminar, "Divorce In A Family Business" from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the bank's Sauk City location, 1111 Sycamore St. Guest speaker is Attorney Linda S. Nov. 2
• "The Path to Happiness," a community enrichment discussion is at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Sauk City Public Library in the lower level meeting room. Guest speaker is Stuart Fields. For more information, call 643-8346. If accommodations are needed to attend residents should call two weeks in advance.
Area Events
• This year's Koats for Kids campaign is collecting winter wear items now to Oct. 10. Area residents can donate gently-worn winter outerwear, non-leather caps, scarves and mittens (pinned in pairs). Donations can be taken to any Klinke Cleaners where they will be cleaned for free and turned over to the Community Action Coalition for distribution. All sizes are welcome — there is a higher demand for infant and toddler snowsuits and jackets, large teen jackets and oversized adult outerwear.
