Sauk Prairie Police Officer and Sauk Prairie School resource officer, Matt Alt, was injured in a hunting accident on Oct. 8. A benefit fund has been set up in his name for donations at the Bank of Prairie du Sac. To make a donation stop by the Bank of Prairie du Sac or mail donations to Bank of Prairie du Sac, P.O. Box 130, Prairie du Sac, WI 53578. Make checks payable to Matt Alt Benefit Fund.

Cleaner by Nature in Sauk City is collecting basic winter necessities during the “A Gift of Warmth” campaign now to Nov. 15. The company is collecting gently used coats, snow pants, mittens, or hats along with other winter items. Items will be collected at Cleaner by Nature, 823 Phillips Boulevard in Sauk City or the St. Vincent de Paul store in Prairie du Sac. Everything will be cleaned and delivered to the Sauk Prairie School District to be given to local families in need. For more information, call 643-7300.

Now to Nov. 16

Home Health United in Prairie du Sac is honoring National Home Care and Hospice Month by collecting donated food to benefit local food pantries now through  Nov. 16. Items can be dropped off at the Prairie du Sac location, 470 Oak St. Food pantries need:  Pancake mix, pancake syrup, peanut butter, jelly, instant oatmeal, spaghetti sauce, tuna, toilet paper, soap, laundry detergent, non-perishable food items and baby items. Donations of cash or grocery store gift cards are also welcome.

The Bank of Prairie du Sac is accepting donations in support of Hope House of South Central Wisconsin. Community members contributing at the bank are entered into a drawing to win a $50 VISA gift card. The winner will be announced on Nov. 27. Suggested donations include new unwrapped holiday gift items, gift cards to retail stores, housekeeping items such as laundry soap, paper towels and food, as well as cash donations. Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society presents the Wollersheim Winery exhibit during the month of November at the Tripp Memorial Museum in Prairie du Sac. The museum is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Nov. 11

Lachmund Cramer VFW Post No. 7694 will honor military veterans during a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Sauk Prairie area Veterans Memorial in Sauk City.

Nov. 12 to 14

Sauk Prairie High School will present the all-school musical “The Pirates of Penzance” on Nov. 12, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. at the River Arts Center in Prairie du Sac. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased from any musical cast or crew member, or call (608) 370-3547. Tickets are also available at the Sauk Prairie Area Community Center or at the door prior to the performance. Advance tickets are encouraged.

Nov. 13

The Sauk Prairie Community Center is offering movie and lunch on Nov. 13, with the movie at 9:30 a.m. and lunch served at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $6.50. The movie this week is “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” Its about Adam, the eldest of seven brothers, goes to town to get a wife. Starring Howard Keel and Jane Powell. Nov. 14 and Dec. 12

Grady the Literacy Dog will be visiting the Sauk City Public Library to listen to area children read at 11 a.m.  Nov. 14 and Dec 12.  Children 4 years and older can register to read with Grady or stop in to see if he’s available. Nov. 15

The Good Neighbor Clinic is celebrating its 10th anniversary with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at the clinic in the St. Vincent de Paul Resource Center, 1906 North St. in Prairie du Sac. The community is encouraged to visit and tour the facility, and to meet volunteers, board members as well as medical staff. The clinic provides free medical and dental care to people without health insurance entirely through donations not only of money, but through the volunteer efforts of physicians, nurses and support staff.

Nov. 16

Area residents are invited to attend a reception to honor the retiring Sauk City Public Library director, Mary E. Kirschner, at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the library. She has been with the library from 1968 until her retirement in 2009. Musical entertainment and refreshments are provided.

Nov. 17

- The Sauk County Public Health Department is offering a H1N1 clinic from 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Prairie du Sac Fire Station, 855 17th St. in Prairie du Sac. This clinic is for pregnant women, people who live with or provide care for infants 6 months old or younger, health care and emergency medical services personnel, children ages 6 months to 4  years and children and adolescents ages 5 to 18 who have a chronic medical condition. - Ferry Bluff Eagle Council will host its fall membership meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the River Arts Center Gallery in Prairie du Sac. The new eagle roost counters will have orientation. For more information, call 643-3376.

- The Sauk Prairie Lodi Women’s Connection invites area residents to a “Standing Tall and Thankful” dinner party at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at The Northern Edge, N1430 Hwy 113 in Lodi. Lodi resident Patty Endres who is a heart transplant recipient and registered dietician will share “What’s Good for the Body.” To make reservations, call (608) 592-3265 or 643-4286.

Nov. 18 and 21

Bean Sprouts Café and Cooking School of Middleton will present “Bean Appetit: Hip and Healthy Ways to Have Fun with Food” at 10 a.m. Nov. 18 and 21 at the Sauk City Public Library in Sauk City. This free version of their one-hour class will emphasize how to incorporate teaching math while cooking with children. To register, call 643-8346.

Nov. 20

The annual Electric Light Parade is Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. on Water St. through Sauk City and Prairie du Sac. Area residents or businesses wanting to participate have until Nov. 20 to register their floats. This year the best float will receive $500. Nov. 21

Sauk Prairie Music Association is having their fall rummage sale  from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Sauk Prairie High School in Prairie du Sac in the commons area. Proceeds will help music department students earn money for: Travel for marching band and show choir along with other expenses and needs.

Nov. 28

Tony “Doc” Thompson cancer benefit gathering is at noon Nov. 28 at the Merrimac Conservation Club, half mile west of Merrimac on Highway 78. The New Crew Band and Steve O-DJ will entertain party goers. The cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple. To donate to Thompson’s cause send checks to M&I Bank, 615 Water St. in Sauk City.

Dec.3

”They’re Selling More Than Alcohol” is a parent presentation sponsored by the Sauk Prairie Community Center in Sauk City from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Dec. 3. Parents can learn how to become media literate along with their children. They will learn to examine hidden messages, values and stereotypes about masculinity, femininity and sexuality in alcohol ads. Registration deadline is Nov. 25. Dec. 5

Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society’s nostalgic Christmas at the Tripp Memorial Museum is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 5. Children of all ages can stop by throughout the day to make two old-fashioned ornaments:  One to keep and one to hang on the Tripp Tree for all to see. The open house is from 5 to 8 p.m. where visitors can listen to Christmas carols and have cookies, hot cocoa and wassail. There is also a silent auction filled with hand-made local items.

Dec. 6

Breakfast with Santa is Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon in the St. Aloysius School gym in Sauk City. The cost is $6, adults and $3 for children 3 to 12 years old. Holiday shoppers can purchase wreaths, roping, Sinsinawa breads, cookies, books and crafts. There is also a chance to win $1,000 during a raffle or to win during the chance raffle. Prizes for the chance raffle are American Girl collection, bike, TV and more.

The River Valley Players will perform, “Christmas in the Valley,” Nov. 27 and 28, Dec. 3, 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 29 and Dec. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at The Gard Theater in Spring Green.
