Community Events

Now to Oct. 27

• "Toys of the Good Ol' Days" exhibit is now open at the Tripp Museum in Prairie du Sac during its regular business hours. Toys from the 1900s will be on display until Oct. 27 along with a list of popular toys sold during each era starting in 1900 to 1990. After visiting the exhibit people can register for door prize drawings which will be in October for two classic toy motorcycles donated by Sauk Prairie Harley Davidson as well as two six-inch American Dolls donated by Luna Bay Art Studio.

Sept. 1

• Accola, Raschein and Wolfe families will reunite for a family reunion at noon Sept. 1 at the Junge Park in Sauk City.

Sept. 2-Oct. 30

• VSA arts of Wisconsin Art Exhibit featuring artistic work of Wisconsin youth and adults with disabilities is on display at the River Arts Center Gallery Sept. 2 to Oct. 30 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on school days. To visit the gallery after hours, call 643-5634. Open reception for the exhibit is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 21. The exhibit is sponsored by the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital and Clinics and presented by River Arts, Inc.

Sept. 7

• The Eagle Council is hosting a picnic for all members and anyone interested in the area's wintering eagles at 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the top of Blackhawk Ridge. The gate on State Highway 78, two miles south of the Sauk City bridge, is open at 2 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass and a beverage.

Sept. 13

• Merrimac Community Festival will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Memorial Park in Merrimac. Throughout the day there will be raffles, drinks, food and games. Cripple Creek Cloggers perform at 11 a.m. and the Precision Aerobotics by Eldon McDaniel will perform weather permitting. A kickball tournament is at the Merrimac Athletic Field. Sept. 16

• Staff Infection wraps up the Riverway Concert series on Sept. 16 in the August Derleth Park in Sauk City. The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. For more information visit www.saukprairie.com.

Sept. 21

•  Encore Studio for the Performing Arts will perform "Real Life" at 4 p.m. Sept. 21 at the River Arts Center in Prairie du Sac. The cost is $15 to $20, students are $5.  Kelsy Schoenhaar lives with Asperger's Syndrome and wrote "Real Life" using a variety of theatrical techniques to help the audience envision the lives of four characters on stage, each offering a glimpse into a different part of the autism spectrum. Tickets are available at the Sauk Prairie Community Center in Sauk City,  online at www.riverarts

Sept. 2, 17, 24

•  Theater Bus of Madison is offering a chance to residents 55 years old or older to travel on a bus to a lunch and play during the month of September. Upcoming events are a trip to Mount Morris, Ill. to see a musical comedy, "One Thousand Laughs," on Sept. 2 at the White Pines Dinner Theater. The cost is $54. Then there is a chance to see "Full Monty," on Sept. 17 at the Drury Lane Theater in Lincolnshire, Ill. The Cost is $78. Residents will have lunch and see the play that is based on a 1997 British film. Rounding out September is the Horicon Marsh Boat Tour and lunch at Ginger's Hideaway on Sept. 24. After the tour and lunch attendees will tour the Confections for any Occasion in Theresa. The cost is $53. Sept. 2-Oct. 4

• 23rd annual "Koats for Kids" winter coat drive will run from Sept. 2 to Oct. 4. To donate needed items take them to a Klinke Cleaners location. Donations will be cleaned and turned over the the Community Action Coalition for distribution. Items needed are gently-worn winter outerwear, non-leather caps, scarves and mittens. Distribution of items will take place mid-October.

Sept. 7

• Free train rides and frozen custard will be the bill of fare on Sept. 7 as the Greater Sauk County Community Foundation holds its 10th birthday party at Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom from 1 to 4 p.m. Sponsored by American Family Insurance, the event will feature entertainment by clowns and a juggler, as well as informational booths presented by the Community Foundation and its partners.
