Community Events

Feb. 6

- The Ron Hart Memorial Scholarship Bowling Tournament is Feb. 6 at the Riviera Bowl in Sauk City. The event is a nine pin tap singles tournament with three shifts: noon, 3:30 and 7 p.m. The entry fee is $20. There will be raffles, door prizes and 50/50 raffles. To register visit the bowling alley or for more information, call Nancy Walch at (608) 434-1639. Proceeds will go to benefit a Sauk Prairie and Baraboo high school senior. They will receive a scholarship.

Feb. 8 and 13

- Sauk Prairie School Board will conduct two budget reduction listening sessions from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Grand Avenue Elementary School and from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 13 at the Tower Rock Elementary School. The purpose is to provide residents with the opportunity to share priorities and offer suggestions to reduce the budget. A card will be available for any written comments or to register to speak. Speakers will have three minutes. Clerk Janet Rudig will monitor time and Patrick McElhenie will serve as the moderator. Board members will have the opportunity to ask questions for clarification purposes. Superintendent Bender will provide budget information including a timeline.

Feb. 9

- A free Sauk Prairie Sewing Guild is forming in the area. Its first meeting is from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 9 in the lower level of the Sauk City Public Library in Sauk City. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call 643-2389.

- Sauk County Retired Educators will gather for a luncheon meeting at noon Feb. 9 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 100 Oak St. in Prairie du Sac. The program for the day is decorative gourds. To make reservations, call Kathy Lohr at (608) 544-3644.

Feb. 12 to 14

- Philippe Coquard of Wollersheim Winery will present “Growing and Pruning Grapevines in Your Backyard” at the Garden Expo Feb. 12 to 14 in the exhibition hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. Feb. 27

- Sauk Prairie Rotary Club hosts its annual casino night on Feb. 27 at the Dorf Haus in Roxbury with gaming from 7 to 10 p.m. and food served from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $60 and includes a hors d’ oeures buffet and Vegas-style gaming (use funny money with a chance to win prizes.) Attendees can dress in costumes with a chance to win a prize for best costume. Proceeds from the event will go towards the youth exchange program. The group also supports the Sauk Prairie Food Pantry, Good Neighbor Clinic, Habitat for Humanity, scholarships as well as International Polio Plus program.

Feb. 27 and March 27

- The historic Park Hall will open its doors for dancing from 8 to 11 p.m. Feb. 27 and March 27. The suggested donation is $5 per person. Now to Feb. 20

- The Wisconsin Regional Art Program’s regional art exhibit is now to Feb. 20 at the River Arts Center Gallery in Prairie du Sac. This non-juried exhibit was open to all local non-professional artists. The event will conclude with an educational workshop and a learning critique for all exhibiting artists and the public on Feb. 20. - The Ferry Bluff Eagle Council in Sauk City is offering guided eagle watching tours every Saturday morning now until Feb. 20. The 90 minute tours visit eagle viewing spots in Sauk City and Prairie du Sac while offering information on eagle ecology and behavior, plus state and local efforts to monitor and manage the Midwest’s bald eagle population. The cost is $5 per person (children ages 5 and younger are free) and will leave the Cedarberry Inn in Sauk City at 10 a.m. each Saturday. Feb. 7

- The Theater Bus is offering transportation for persons 55 and older to Sun Prairie to see the comedy, “The Foreigner” on Feb. 7 in the Sun Prairie High School Auditorium. The cost is $49. Prior to the show, brunch will be served at the Country Grill in Sun Prairie.  The bus then will travel to Johnsonville on Feb. 14 to celebrate Fasching and have lunch. The cost is $64. Feb. 8

- Sauk County 40 ET8’s host a smelt feed from 4 to 9 p.m. Feb. 8 at Hooty’s in Baraboo. The all-you-can-eat dinner costs $9 in advance or $10 at the door. For more information, call (608) 356-7707. All proceeds are for its nursing scholarship program.

- Sauk County has scheduled a public information meeting for residents interested in learning more about gypsy moth and the suppression spray program at 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at the West Square Building, room 213 in Baraboo.  Representatives from the county and the Department of Natural Resources will be present to discuss the biology and control of the gypsy moth, and which areas of the county are proposed for treatment.

- Artists producing wall-hung art are invited to apply for exhibitions in the University of Wisconsin–Madison Arboretum’s Steinhauer Trust Gallery now through Now through Feb. 27. For more information, visit www.uwarboretum.org/artists.

March 6

- The Baraboo Rotary Club’s annual fund-raiser Kegs and Corks is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. March 6 at the Garden Party Café and Calliope Room, 524 Oak St. in Baraboo. Attendees will be treated to samples of more than 20 different wine and beers. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and desserts are available. Tickets are $25 per person.
