There's still time to recoup flood losses from 2008

By Tim Damos, Capital Newspapers

There’s still time for Sauk County business owners impacted by the June 2008 floods to recoup some of their damages.

County officials learned in early September that they qualified for an additional $2 million in federal funds being distributed by the state’s emergency assistance grant program.
Sauk County Administrative Coordinator Kathy Schauf said a committee that manages the funds is in the process of distributing the first $1.5 million.
Businesses have until Nov. 20 to submit applications for the next round of zero-interest loans and grants.
The money can be used for reimbursement of reconstruction or repairs, equipment, damaged inventory, or lost revenue directly tied to the flood.
The money cannot be used for damages already covered by insurance or other government assistance programs, cleaning, replacement of personal items, or repairs not directly related to the disaster.
To request an application, contact Jilline Dobratz in the Administrative Coordinator’s Office at (608) 355-3274 or visit www.co.sauk.wi.us.
The additional $2 million comes with another $61,188 in reimbursements for road and airport repairs and $50,000 for cleanup of the Baraboo River.
To date, Sauk County has received $6.9 million through the state Department of Commerce Emergency Assistance Program and has expended almost $2.7 million of that amount, Schauf said.
