Thomas A. Mitchell, 91, of Norfolk, Neb. - Published October 22, 2008

Thomas A. Mitchell, 91, of Norfolk, Neb., died Thursday Oct. 16, 2008 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.  

Mr. Mitchell was born Nov. 25, 1916 in Adrian, Mich., the son of Albert and Hazel (Hague) Mitchell. He attended school in Adrian, Mich. and Sioux City, Iowa and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1939. After graduating he worked at several jobs in Norfolk, Neb. in construction, repair and for the City of Norfolk. He entered United States Army on Feb. 23, 1943 and was honorably discharged on Nov. 17, 1943.

Mr. Mitchell married Lorraine Barnhart on July 2, 1955 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Norfolk. He worked for 30 years for the Omaha District of the Army Corps of Engineers as a construction site representative, working in seven states including the Fort Randal Dam at Pickstown, S.D. He worked six years at Naches, Wash. for the Department of Agriculture Forestry Service and his last job was with the Corps of Engineers in Wisconsin before retiring in 1978.

He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Norfolk.  

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine Mitchell, of Norfolk; one daughter, Cassandra Neal, of Bellingham, Wash.; grandchildren, Tara Neal, of Washington, Cory, Shawn and Heather Neal, of S.D.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bill and other family members and friends.  

Memorial services were Oct. 20 at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Neb. with Rev. Michael Awe officiating. Inurnment was at a later date.
