Louis George Goette, 87, of Merrimac

Louis George Goette, 87, of Merrimac, died on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 at Walnut Grove Assisted Living in Baraboo. 

Mr. Goette was born in Merrimac township on Sept. 13, 1922, the son of the late Oscar and Hilda (Yarkie) Goette. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a long-time member of Immanuel Evangelical  Lutheran Church in Merrimac. He graduated from Prairie du Sac High School in 1940. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served during the Normandy Invasion and then spent a year in the Pacific before returning to the states and working in Norfolk, Va. in communications. After being discharged he completed his college education and returned to the family farm on Goette Road. He enjoyed farming, family and friends.

Mr. Goette is survived by a brother, Lowell (Dorothy) Goette, of Merrimac; a sister, Muriel Halweg, of Merrimac; four nephews, Ron (Sue) Goette, Jerry (Deb) Halweg, Steven (Sue) Halweg and Larry (Mary) Halweg; a niece, Gloria (Michael) Leatherberry and other relatives and friends.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Donald Halweg.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 23 at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Merrimac with Pastor Joel Bradtke officiating. Burial, with military services conducted by Lachmund-Cramer V.F.W. Post No. 7694, will be in the Kingston Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday after 10 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immanuel Evangelical  Lutheran Church.
