Merton R. Moely, 89, of Prairie du Sac/Sauk City

Merton R. Moely, 89, of Prairie du Sac/Sauk City, died on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie.

Mr. Moely was born on Dec. 28, 1919 in Sauk City the son of the late Walter and Anna (Riches) Moely. He attended Prairie du Sac High School, graduating in the class of 1937. He was united in marriage to Shirley Steuber on Feb. 7, 1942. The Ferry Bluff Farm was their home and farm until 1964 when they moved to Sauk City where he was employed by McFarlane's Manufacturing until his retirement in 1981.

During his retirement, Mr. Moely was employed part-time by Kindschi's seed corn and also as a groundskeeper at the First united Church of Christ where he was a lifelong member. He enjoyed fishing, spending time at their Lake Wisconsin cottage, woodworking, playing cards, tending his lawn, and gathering and cooking maple syrup.

Mr. Moely is survived by  his wife of 67 years, Shirley, of Prairie du Sac; one daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Steve Thurwachter, of Plover; a sister, Mildred Steckelberg, of Prairie du Sac; sisters-in-law, Doris Steuber and Sharal Steuber, of Prairie du Sac; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edsel and Caroline Steuber;. further survived by numerous nieces nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was Oct. 26 at the First United Church of Christ in Sauk City with Pastor Bill Kapp officiating. Burial was in the Sauk City Cemetery.
