Sauk Prairie names new hockey assistant

By Dan Larson, Sauk Prairie Eagle

Second-year Sauk Prairie boys' hockey coach Bryan Schilling has a new assistant coach.

And he didn't have to look far to get him.

The Sauk Prairie School Board board approved 2004 Sauk Prairie graduate Shaun Glynn to be hired as an assistant on Schilling's staff during its regular meeting June 21.

Glynn played hockey for Sauk Prairie from 2000-01 to 2003-04, and as a senior helped lead the Eagles to their only state tournament appearance in the 9-year history of the program.  He was named first team, All Northern Badger Conference as a junior and senior and to the second team as a sophomore, and he received honorable mention, all-state honors as a junior and senior. He served as a volunteer coach in 2005-06 and 2006-07 under previous coaches Troy Sippl and Dan Endres, respectively, but time committments prevented him from helping Schilling last year.

"Shaun was someone that I wanted on the staff," Schilling said. "He worked well with the kids under (previous coaches) and he's probably the best player to come out of Sauk Prairie. You can't go wrong with someone like that."

Schilling didn't have an assistant last year, but said he decided shortly after the season that he thought it would be a good idea to add one because he expects a large roster this year.

When he informed athletic director Aaron Braund of the idea, the two began working on a plan to add an assistant and discovered the district's co-curricular budget included a position for an assistant hockey coach.

Braund opened the position for interviews in early June, but Glynn was the only person to apply and was interviewed then before being hired.
