Sauk graduate named to Lawrence Hall of Fame
By Dan Larson, Sauk Prairie Eagle
Tracy Maschman-Morrissey is one of the best female swimmers in Sauk Prairie High School history, and she translated that success into an award-winning collegiate career.
Now, she will be honored for her accomplishments.
Maschman-Morrissey, a 1993 Sauk Prairie graduate, is one of seven former Lawrence University (Appleton) athletes who will be inducted into its Intercollegiate Athletic Hall of Fame at a banquet on Oct. 24, according to a press release by the University's Athletic Department on July 9.
"It's a huge honor and really exciting," Maschman-Morrissey said when reached by phone at her home in Seattle, Wash.
"The Hall of Fame started (in 1996) while I was an athlete at Lawrence ... and from that time on it was certainly something I had hoped would happen for me."
Maschman-Morrissey, who graduated from Lawrence in 1997, holds the school record in the 200-yard butterfly (two minutes, 11.01 seconds) and won eight individual Midwest Conference championships. She was also part of six conference-winning relay teams.
She finished 16th in the 100 butterfly at the 1995 NCAA Division III championship meet and ninth in the 200 butterfly at the 1996 meet. She was a College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-American and Academic All-American both years.
While in high school, Maschman-Morrissey — then just known by her maiden name of Maschman — qualified for the WIAA swimming and diving meet twice. As a junior in 1991, she finished 16th in the 100 butterfly and as a senior she placed fourth in the event in Division 2. 1992 was the first year the WIAA split the field into two divisions.
Nearly 16 years later she's still swimming.
"I'm still swimming and still love swimming," Maschman-Morrissey said, adding that she is swimming in the 3.2-mile Fat Salmon Open Water Swim in Seattle's Lake Washington on July 19.
