VOLLEYBALL: Familiar foe in first round

By Dan Larson, Sauk Prairie Eagle

When the Sauk Prairie girls volleyball team takes the floor at the Resch Center on Nov. 6 for its 4 p.m. WIAA Division 2 state semifinal, it’ll do so against a team it has already faced this season.

Sauk Prairie and Appleton Xavier squared off at the Madison Edgewood invitational a little less than a month ago — with the two teams splitting a pair of sets.

"We have a few things that we can probably adjust a little," senior setter Lauren Halweg said of what the Eagles can take from that match. "Otherwise, we’re just going to have to play our game the best we can."

It’s Xavier’s first trip to state since it finished as the runner up in the second of two consecutive appearances in 2006.

Meanwhile, last year’s runner up, Waukesha Catholic Memorial, faces first-time participant Tomahawk in the other semifinal. The winners will play for the title at 3 p.m. Nov. 7.

Tickets for respective sessions at the tournament, which begins Nov. 5 with Division 1 action, are $8.
