Why is the Big Ten playing two games in December? While does a condensed schedule include games on 51 of the 55 days from Jan. 2 through Feb. 25, including games on Mondays and Fridays?
So the conference can play its tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York from Feb. 28 through March 4, a week earlier than the event is usually held. The Garden is booked for the Big East tournament the following weekend.
After the Big Ten tournament is over, teams will have to wait a week to find out their postseason fate. While that break will give players a chance to rest, it’ll be interesting to see if the long layoff affects Big Ten teams once they start NCAA tournament play.
UW is no stranger to Madison Square Garden, where it has played four games over the past two seasons.
The Badgers lost to Georgetown and beat VCU in the 2015 2K Classic.
Last season, UW beat Rutgers in overtime in the Big Ten Super Showcase at the Garden. But the Badgers’ season ended with an overtime loss to Florida in a Sweet 16 game at the venue.
If the Badgers make the NCAA tournament for the 20th consecutive season — and avoid the First Four in Dayton, Ohio — they’ll begin play in one of these eight first- and second-round sites: PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh; INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas; the American Airlines Center in Dallas; Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho; the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina; Little Caesars Arena in Detroit; Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee; or Veijas Arena in San Diego.
The four regional sites are: Philips Arena in Atlanta; Staples Center in Los Angeles; TD Garden in Boston; and the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, will host the Final Four on March 31. The title game will be played on April 2.
