The hustle and bustle of the holidays has nothing on Waupun’s prep gymnastics team, which has been busier than Santa’s elves the past four days.
The Warriors aren’t complaining, not after posting an impressive score (125.175) Saturday at the West Bend East Invite and then returning home to defeat West Allis Hale/Central (122.25-102.15) Monday before hitting the road again Tuesday and defeating Markesan (119.777-100.450).
But they are tired.
“The girls were exhausted from the busy three-meet schedule in the last four days,” Warriors co-head coach Jane Neevel said.
Eryn Hautamaki won the vault and the balance beam on Tuesday, and took second on the uneven bars (7.175) and third on the floor exercise.
Emily Renz and Isabella Doege tied for first on floor. Doege also won the bars, Grace Lenz took second on vault, and Sara Miller and Renz were second and third on beam.
Against Hale/Central in what was a Greater Metro Conference meet, Hautamaki posted an all-around score of 29.6 — a personal record for 24 hours until she set a new PR with Tuesday’s winning all-around score of 29.825.
Other highlights Monday, according to Neevel, were a “flawless bar routine” by Miller; first-place finishes by Doege on bars, vault, beam and in the all-around; and a season-high score by Lenz on floor en route to first place in the event.
Also, Monday’s Daily Citizen inadvertently mixed up scores by Lenz and Hautamaki. The story should have said that Hautamaki took 13th in beam with a no-fall routine that netted her a PR of 8.35, and Lenz took sixth in vault with a PR of 8.5.
