Jackson Hemauer, the 2016-17 Wisconsin State Journal/WisconsinPrepZone.com All-Area Wrestler of the Year from DeForest, will transfer from the University of Wisconsin to Fresno State.

A UW spokesperson confirmed Monday that Hemauer, the 2017 WIAA Division 1 state champion at 182 pounds, asked for and was granted a full release from the wrestling program.

"We wish Jackson the best with his future educational plans," Badgers coach Barry Davis said in a statement released by the school.

Hemauer competed in the Badgers' intrasquad scrimmage on Oct. 26 and wrestled unattached at the Michigan State Open on Nov. 5.

He was 49-1 for DeForest last season and won his second Division 1 state title. He won at 160 pounds as a junior.
