Prep baseball: Johnson Creek hammers H/D

JOHNSON CREEK — Southern Trailways leader Johnson Creek belted out 14 hits and took advantage of early mistakes to beat Hustisford/Dodgeland, 7-2, Friday night.

"The errors prolonged innings," H/D coach Rich Padron said. "That doesn't help too many teams, especially against good ones."

Johnson Creek (13-3, 11-1 South) jumped out quickly on H/D ace Austin Neu, belting out 12 hits and seven earned runs in less than three innings.

Derek Pieper came in and shut down the Bluejays the rest of the way but by then the damage was done.

"They're a good hitting lineup, no question about that," Padron said.

H/D (12-5, 9-3) heads to Lake Country Lutheran today.

Lourdes 18

Markesan 8 (5 inn.)

MARKESAN — Ten unearned runs by Oshkosh Lourdes in the second inning paced the Knights to an 18-8 win over Markesan in Friday's Northern Trailways baseball contest.

"We had two down with no one on base," Hornets coach Kevin Wopat said of the second inning. "Then they got a double and we had two straight errors.

"The floodgates opened from there. When you give up that many runs, you make life tough on yourself."

Ryan Krueger had a three-run homer in the third inning and Andrew Koopman added a two-run shot in the fourth to provide offense for the Hornets (7-11, 7-7 North).

Markesan heads to Johnson Creek Tuesday for a nonconference doubleheader.
