Volleyball roundup: Waupun scales Everest

SCHOFIELD — Waupun's volleyball team won all five matches to take Saturday's Schofield D.C. Everest Invitational.

Most noteworthy among the wins was a 25-19, 23-25, 15-13 battle over the hosts. The Evergreens lost a Division 1 state quarterfinal in five sets to West Bend East after beating Milwaukee Pius XI in five sets last year.

"I thought the entire team showed some great maturity during this tournament," Waupun coach Keith Milkowski said. "We had a tough match against Schofield and had some calls go against us.

"We hung in there and pulled out the win against a good team."

Brandi Dolgner had 37 kills, 27 digs and five aces while Bridget Nickel added 36 kills, 18 digs, eight blocks and five aces. It was the play of opposite Trisha Core, with 22 kills, 15 digs and six aces, that drew Milkowski's praise.

"I thought Trisha had a great tournament for us," Milkowski said.

Michielah Navis had 93 assists, 17 aces and 10 digs while Lydia Guell had 17 digs and Amanda VanEgtern added 14. Libby Bresser had 11 blocks and Jenell Larsen chipped in with 10 for the Warriors (12-1), who visit Two Rivers Thursday.
