Large Trailways roundup: Trojans blank Oaks

OAKFIELD — Steven Schmidt ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns for Dodgeland as the Trojans shutout Oakfield, 35-0, in Friday's Large Trailways football contest.

Dodgeland (4-2, 3-1 Large) held a 21-0 lead at halftime but had a majority of its 95 penalty yards in the first half.

"I thought for the first half we were mostly sleepwalking," Dodgeland coach Ron Miller said. "We had quite a few penalties.

"But we got better in the second half."

Trojans quarterback Wesley Jahnke had a pair of touchdown tosses to Tony Hanke and Derek Pieper in the win.

Dodgeland held Oakfield (0-4) to minus-2 passing yards on the night.

The Trojans head to Pardeeville next Friday night.

JOHNSON CREEK — Johnson Creek's Mitch McCaffery had 243 rushing yards and four touchdowns as the Bluejays pulled away from Markesan, 33-7, in Friday's Large Trailways football game.

McCaffery had scoring runs of 1, 10, 10 and 83 on the night for the Bluejays (2-4, 2-2 Large).

"McCaffery had a couple of big plays to break our back with long runs," Markesan coach Kevin Wopat said.

Markesan also had problems with turnovers as the Hornets threw five interceptions — four in the first half.

Despite miscues that included a 43-yard interception return for a touchdown by the Bluejays' Trevor Eilenfeldt, the Hornets were still in the game at halftime after Ryan Krueger's 17 yard receiving score.

"Defensively, we played our best game of the year in the first half," Wopat said. "We tried to dig ourselves too big of a hole."

The Hornets (0-6, 0-4) host Montello/Princeton next Friday night.
