Small Trailways roundup: Randolph, C-F roll to wins
By Citizen Staff
FALL RIVER — Four different Randolph players had two touchdown runs against Fall River as the Rockets blasted the Pirates, 56-6, Friday in Small Trailways football. A.J. Schick ran for 105 yards and two scores while Brian Kampstra had 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Also adding scoring runs were Zack Reuter and Ben Syvertson. Randolph (4-4, 3-3 Small) tallied 332 rushing yards. "This was a total team effort," Randolph coach Zach Kouba said. "We wanted to set a tone early and we did just that." The Rockets held Fall River (1-7, 1-5) to 105 yards in total offense. Chris Fauser had the Pirates' lone score on an 83-yard kickoff return late in the first quarter. "They're a lot bigger and a lot older than we are," Fall River coach Brian Zacho said. "That dictated the game." Randolph must defeat Abundant Life at home next Thursday to qualify for the playoffs. Fall River ends its season hosting rival Rio the same night. C-F 58 Abundant Life 15 CAMBRIA — Wayne Bontrager had 205 rushing yards and four first-half touchdowns as Cambria-Friesland pounded Madison Abundant Life, 58-15, in Friday's Small Trailways contest. Bontrager had runs of 15, 7 and 11 before ripping off an 80-yard scamper midway through the second quarter. C-F (3-5, 3-3 Small) finished with 479 rushing yards on 49 attempts. "We're starting to click a little more offensively," Toppers coach Jim Bylsma said. "The interior of our line is starting to play really well." C-F also got 103 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns from John Gutzman in the win. But Bylsma said his team must be better at passing and special teams before getting into the playoffs. "We need to tighten some things up," Bylsma said. "We gave up a kick return after a touchdown and that's something that can't happen when you are in the playoffs." To reach postseason, the Toppers must defeat Green Lake next Thursday. Abundant Life falls to 2-6 and 2-4.
