Husty hosts Toilet Bowl event
By CONNIE DORNFELD, Staff Reporter
HUSTISFORD - There was no white fluffy falling from the sky during the Toilet Bowl parade through downtown Hustisford Thursday afternoon, but the aftermath was a sea of white following blizzard of toilet tissue tossed from spectators to parade participants and back. Some tissue fluttered from overhead utility lines after being catapulted there by two young men with a make-shift slingshot. Festivities got underway shortly after noon Thursday with the crowning of the 2009 Toilet Bowl King and Queen Eric Jacobson and Patty Ehlrich. Each was presented with a toilet plunger as a scepter. Runners-up were Shane Alwardt and Aimee Wells. All four rode on the Toilet Bowl float in the New Year's Day parade led by fire-fighting apparatus with sirens blaring. Atop one of the vehicles was parade marshal Stefanie Bishop of WKRO radio 95.3. Parade winners included Lucky Taco, first; Lake Street Inn, second; Kool Trikes, third; Ashippun Gas Station, fourth; Lininger Trucking, fifth; Marshview Riders, sixth; Dodge County Antique Tractor Club, seventh, and Don Zimmerman, eighth. Despite the forecast of 30 degrees projected for the New Year's Day festivities, the temperature was recorded at 18 degrees with a chill factor of nine degrees. The bone-chilling wind didn't deter attendance, as the crowd lining Lake Street was one of the largest ever. In the big football game, played on a field covered with icy spots and playing without protective pads and helmets, the Lake Street Inn and Days Gone By team defeated Rock River Bar and Grill and Teddy's by a score of 14 to 6. In the water battles, Knowles Fire Department placed first, Boltonville was second and Ashippun was third. Proceeds from the festivities provide scholarships for Hustisford High School graduates, equipment for the fire department, and Firemen's Hall expenses.
