Gunfire report leads to drug bust
TOWN OF RUBICON — Three people were arrested in an early morning drug raid on Saturday after a woman reported hearing gunshots coming from her neighbor's house. According to a press release from the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to W2287 Pond Road in the township of Rubicon due to a complaint of the shots being fired. Upon arrival deputies spoke to several people and observed numerous articles of drug paraphernalia and a disassembled shotgun underneath a couch. A deputy then contacted the Dodge County District Attorney's office to obtain a search warrant for the residence. District Attorney Bill Bedker prepared the warrant and it was granted by Judge John Storck. That warrant was executed at 3:36 a.m. and authorities uncovered several more items of drug paraphernalia and a indoor marijuana grow operation consisting of 25 plants. Authorities spent 10 hours at the scene collecting evidence that resulted in the arrests of three individuals. Steven J, Riddle, 23 and Matthew Gillig, 29 were arrested on suspicion of manufacturing of marijuana, maintaining a drug house, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Andrea R. Schmidt, 21 was arrested for possession of cocaine. Once in custody, further search of Schmidt's purse produced drug paraphernalia and a baggy of marijuana. She was additionally charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. "I appreciate DA Bedker and his willingness to assist us all hours, day and night," said Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls. "It seems that recently, everything is happening overnight and on weekends. The DA's office has always been very receptive and their cooperation is appreciated."
