TOWN OF ALTO — A fire early Monday morning destroyed a barn full of crops and 58 dairy cattle.

According to Sgt. Chris Dobyins of the Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department, a call came in at 1:48 a.m. for a fire at W12480 Amity Road in the town of Alto.

The barn, belonging to Brian K. Bresser, Brandon, was engulfed in flames when fire fighters arrived.

There were no injuries, and nothing was suspicious about the fire said Dobyins.  

Fire departments from Alto, Waupun, Fairwater/Brandon, Lamartine, Rosendale and Markesan responded as did the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department.

"There was a good turnout, we had plenty of water," said Alto Fire Chief Jeff Medema. "It took six hours to put the fire out, and we were there until about noon cleaning up."

Medema said a Fond du Lac County Sheriff's deputy called in the fire.

Medema said he didn't know the cause of the fire.
