School libraries get funds
MADISON — School libraries throughout the state are sharing $35.3 million in payments made from the Common School Fund. Aid can be used to purchase books, media materials, and computer equipment for public school libraries. The library aid payments are $28.37 per student for the 1,244,462 children between the ages of four and 20 living in each of the state's 426 school districts. Proceeds from the fund represent the only state aid specifically designated for the purchase of materials for school libraries. Local district libraries who received aid include Beaver Dam ($154,678), Cambria-Friesland ($16,395), Columbus ($51,115), Dodgeland $34,124), Fall River ($15,686), Horicon ($51,143), Hustisford ($19,941), Lomira ($43,371), Markesan ($49,583), Mayville ($41,896), Randolph ($22,579), and Waupun ($83,168). The DPI sent library aid payments to districts on Monday. The aid must be used by June 30 for expenditures cited in statute. Those items include: print and digital library books, reference and professional resources, newspapers, and periodicals; audiovisual resources, such as videos, cassettes, CDs, and DVDs; digital, video-streamed or Web-based resources for the library; pre-processing fees for shelf-ready resources or library book rebinding.
