Waupun hosted art show

WAUPUN — Waupun Area High School hosted the Eastern Wisconsin Conference Art Show April 30, featuring artwork from students at eight high schools; Campbellsport, Kewaskum, Kiel, New Holstein, Plymouth, Sheboygan Falls, Two Rivers and Waupun. Each school was able to showcase 25 pieces from its students.

Artwork varied from photography, ceramics, drawing and painting to metals, sculpture, graphic design and jewelry. It was displayed in the WAHS library April 27 to 30.

"It's great that our students get to see such a variety of art in our school," WAHS art instructor Doug Disch said. "There are some really talented student artists in our area. It was really hard to choose who to enter in the show."

Each school judged another school, awarding 10 merit winners for each school, one of which is chosen as best of show. Merit winners for Waupun included Emma Lamers' acrylic painting titled "Self Portrait;" Nicole DeBoer's graphic design titled "Jerad;" Desirae Adams' mixed piece titled "Self Worth;" Allison Sanders' color pencil drawing titled "Self Portrait;" Mary Gehl's photograph titled "Spiderweb;" Ariel Griffis' pencil drawing titled "My Protector;" Sadie Manske's graphic design titled "Artic Wolf;" Mary Gehl's photograph titled "The Ripple Effect;" and Beth Wegner's metal collection titled "My Chains."

Junior Shayna Wilson won best in show for Waupun. She painted a piece titled "Log Cabin in Pine" using watercolors.

"It's the second watercolor I've done," Wilson said. "I made it earlier this year in AP Art."

Wilson also had a paper mache piece entered in the art show.

This was the first time Waupun has ever hosted the event and they won't host it for another eigth years. Each school in the conference takes a turn showcasing the 200 pieces of students' art.
