Randolph school board OKs class trip

RANDOLPH - The Randolph School Board looked to the future at its May meeting, approving purchases, trips and programs for the next school year.

The board also approved plans from the Class of 2010 to take an overnight class trip next year. The class is tentatively planning to go to St. Louis, depending on the funds raised.

"We'll come back with a final destination in the fall," said class advisor Keith Gundlach

The board also approved a high school musical, with a performance of "Oliver" based on Charles Dicken's "Oliver Twist" planned for a window between fall and winter sports. The board also approved an overnight trip for the volleyball team, and its membership in the WIAA for 2009-10.

The school board approved the purchase of a bus for $82,500.

The school board elected officers for the next year, with Gary DeVries continuing as president, Barb Braker as vice president, Jana Roberts as clerk and Keith Medema to serve as treasurer.

The school board approved the list of 2009 RHS graduates, with 41 seniors set to receive diplomas on May 30.

District administrator Dr. Greg Peyer talked to the board about the outlook for school funding from the state, and the impact federal stimulus funding will have on it.

"My concern is the year 2011-12," Peyer said.

He said that his optimism only goes so far and he doesn't know if the state revenue will increase by that time.

"You're going to have to start doing your report in Eeyore's voice," DeVries said to Peyer.

Peyer also said that because of snow days, late starts and early releases, students will be kept for a full school day on the last day of school rather than be released at 1 p.m.

The board adjourned to executive session to review staff and administration evaluations and contracts for the 2009-10 school year, accept three resignations and approve the compensation for the summer cleaning crew.
