Mayville expects cuts

MAYVILLE — In an effort to guess which way the legislative wind is blowing, District Administrator Ron Bieri  told the Mayville School Board last night that it looks like the district might  lose $200,000 in state aid and $90,000 in revenue limits.

"We don't know what will be passed, but I continually update myself," said Bieri. Who passed out a legislative update from the Wisconsin Association of School Boards that said the latest proposed budget cuts school aids by 3 percent.

"If this happens it will make our job of budgeting very difficult. I don't know if I see a light at the end of the tunnel," said Bieri.

Earlier that evening the board voted 7-0 to approve the purchase of a new line service in the high school cafeteria. Demolition will start when school is out. "New serving units for serving food will be installed, and old coolers and heaters will be replaced. The units are 40 years old," said board president John Westphal.

The milk coolers don't work and have been taking up room for two years, said Richard Demski, food service director.

The improvement will cost $31,000 which will come from Fund 50.

"This is from the food service fund, not the general operating budget," stressed Bieri. "Some equipment is original, from the 1960s."

Graduation will be Sunday, June 7 at 1 p.m. at the high school.
