Flu can't slow Woltman
Capital Newspapers
Dan Woltman, the Beaver Dam native and former University of Wisconsin golfer, had quite a week on the East Coast.
Not only did Woltman, 22, capture the prestigious Northeast Amateur Invitational in East Providence, R.I. — a tournament that features the top amateurs in the nation and has past champions such as Ben Crenshaw (1973), Scott Hoch (1977), David Duval (1992) and Anthony Kim (2004).
But Woltman did so after shaking off the swine flu, which he reportedly caught while playing a tournament in Memphis, Tenn.
“I’ve had the swine flu for the last three weeks,” Woltman told the Providence Journal. “I didn’t really practice much coming in. I only played 27 holes of golf in the last three weeks.”
Woltman, the 2006 State Amateur champ and 2007 State Open winner, is working toward his goal of qualifying for the Walker Cup, an event held in September. U.S. captain Buddy Marucci is expected to select his 10-member team in August.
