Monday's ECAL roundup: Starting 11 for BD
By TOM KAHL - Sports Editor
MAYVILLE — Beaver Dam's revamped lineup made quite the initial impression. Post 146 scored eight runs before making an out on its way to an 11-run first at Mayville Monday night. BD finished off the hosts, 20-5, in five innings while pounding out 16 hits. "We think that'll help us," Beaver Dam coach Joe Loizzo said of the lineup change. "We got five hits out of the bottom three of our order and the in the middle, it didn't hurt those guys." Matt Haase capped the initial eruption by taking a three-run shot the opposite way — in his second at-bat of the inning. BD chased Kevin Goard, who went through the visiting lineup once without getting an out before departing. "We were pretty focused at the plate to start," Loizzo said. "Our first nine guys got on, which is good for us. "We put 16 hits up and it's good for us to swing the bats the way we did." Haase added a solo blast in the fifth to finish with four RBIs. Mitch Aplin went 3-for-4 with a three-run bomb in the fifth toward his four-RBI night, which included a double. Cody Schmitt went 3-for-3, doubled and drove in three runs. Alex Finke went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Tal Diekvoss had two hits and knocked in a pair. Steve Propst had two hits with a double while Rollie Keel doubled and drove in three. Keel picked up the win by throwing the first two innings while Dusty Blanchard finished up. "Our pitching depth is getting better," Loizzo said. "Haase is seeing the ball well and we're putting up some pretty good numbers. BD (8-1, 4-1 South) hosts Jackson in tonight's contest.
