MIDDLETON — The Baraboo American Legion baseball team got off to a good start Wednesday in its game against Middleton. They scored three runs in the top of the first.
Then, it was Middleton's turn. Middleton put up five runs in its half of the first and didn't let up until it won a 15-5 game in five innings.
Middleton had 15 hits in the game, with each of the top seven spots in the lineup collecting two apiece.
"This was the best hitting team we have faced. Everything our pitcher threw, they hit hard," said Baraboo coach Craig Schlender.
The Bandits got two runs in the third inning to tie the game at 5-all, but Middleton scored three times in the third, six in the fourth, and scored the 15th run with no outs in the fifth.
Steven Lynch led off the game for the Bandits by getting hit by a pitch. Singles by Mark Kowalke and Nick Labeots turned it into a rally, and Luke McGann reached on an error later in the inning.
In the Baraboo third, Kowalke drew a leadoff walk, and back-to-back-to-back singles by Labeots, Seymour and McGann added up to two runs.
Baraboo had good production out of the middle of the lineup, with Kowalke, Labeots and Seymour, the No. 2, 3 and 4 hitters, each contributing two hits to the Bandits' seven team hits.
Seymour look the loss on the mound, as he went 3 2-3 innings and allowed 13 hits and six walks, which led to 14 runs — 11 earned.
Cody Holloway recorded one out and gave up a triple and a single to start off the fifth inning, which let Middleton's 15th run score.
Baraboo hosts Reedsburg today in a 7 p.m. game.
