Jake Overlien threw a two-hitter to lead the Baraboo American Legion baseball team to a 6-1 win over Reedsburg in a game Saturday night.
Both hits, as well as one of the two walks Overlien allowed, came in the second inning in which Reedsburg scored its only run. Overlien struck out eight batters, including at least one in every frame but the sixth.
"Jake Overlien had a great outing," Baraboo coach Craig Schlender said. "(He did a) good job hitting the corners and keeping the ball down."
After falling behind 1-0, Baraboo had a big inning in the bottom of the third to provide all the run support Overlien needed.
It started with a Reedsburg error that allowed Jon Schlender to reach base. Dylan Luther, Nick Labeots, Mark Kowalke, Sam Seymour and Overlien all reached base in succession after that.
A passed ball allowed Schlender to come in with the tying run, and another passed ball plated Labeots with the Bandits' second run. Seymour drove in Labeots with his single, and a two-run base hit with one out by Brady Olson scored Seymour and Overlien for the Bandits' fourth and fifth runs.
Baraboo added one more run in the fourth inning when Luther singled to start the inning, moved up on a hit by Labeots, and scored on another passed ball.
The Bandits' defense, which was a problem area early in the season, played well behind their pitcher. Baraboo made only one error in the game, and second baseman Steven Lynch's diving stop on a grounder up the middle led to a double play to stop a two-on, one-out rally in the sixth.
The Bandits had nine hits as a team, with Luther and Kowalke each picking up two of them.
Baraboo hosts Mauston on Tuesday.
