Decorative panels sought
The Sauk County UW-Extension Arts and Culture Committee and the Sauk County Historical Society are asking organizations, families, classrooms, individuals and businesses to name what they value as a community asset and create an informational panel. In addition, these panels, which will be housed at the Sauk County Historical Society, will be available upon request for various community festivals, the county fair and for school tours. According to a press release submitted by the arts and culture committee, assets can be social, historical and natural. Interested parties should call Orris Smith at the Historical Society at (608) 356-1001 to announce the intended subject. To submit a finished panel drop it off at the Van Orden Mansion, 532 Fourth Ave. in Baraboo. Panel requirements • The panels should fit on a standard 24-inch by 36-inch "coroplast" board available at local sign shops and have corner grommets for hanging. A Sauk City business, Signature Signs, has prepared several panels already. • Front of the panel must identify the location. It can also have a title or small map. • When creating the panel use copies, not originals, of photos and documents and secure them with adhesive to the corrugated plastic board, portrait or landscape style. • Allow at least 1-inch margins around the edge of the board for grommets. If grommets are not installed the Historical Society will charge $2 per board to install them. • Pamphlets or brochures that could be displayed nearby are recommended for maximum effect. They can relate to other aspects of the community as well. • For the Historical Society's cultural assets file, history of the site, contact information must be written and accompany the panel in a envelope labeled with the title of the panel. According to the press release, a complete list of guidelines and requirements are available at the Historical Society, or visit www.saukcountyhistory.org. If funds are an issue, please check the UW-Extension office for information about how to apply for a good idea grant. — Eagle staff
