'The bus' ready to roll into Sauk Prairie and rest of Sauk County today
A new county-wide bus service is ready to roll today, local officials said.
The program, called The Bus, will offer low-fare rides to people in several Sauk County communities.
Two buses will circle in opposite directions between Reedsburg, Lake Delton, and Baraboo on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Buses will hit Baraboo, Bluffview, Prairie du Sac and Sauk City on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The routes will include stops at common housing areas, major employers, medical facilities and shopping locations in each community to accommodate elderly and disabled citizens. But the bus service, coordinated by Sauk County's Aging and Disability Resource Center, is available for anyone to use.
For those who need additional help, the county's transportation team can make special accommodations, said Ashley Nedeau-Owen, the county's mobility manager.
"If The Bus is not the best match to meet your needs, the team may arrange for an escort driver or perhaps connect you with another service that will work for you," he said.
Fares for The Bus are $1 per ride for older adults, people with disabilities and students. Everyone else can ride for $2.
Multi-trip punch cards and brochures listing route schedules are available at the ADRC office in the West Square Building in Baraboo. Brochures are also available at bus stops.
