Grace Bruno, 96, of Sauk City
Grace Bruno, 96, of Sauk City, died at Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City on Thursday, June 25, 2009.
Mrs. Bruno was born in Chicago, Ill. on May 25, 1913 to Francis and Josephine (Pusatari) Azzarello. She married Nicholas (Nick) Bruno on July 18, 1943. They resided in Chicago until their retirement in 1965, when they moved to Florida. In 1983, they relocated to Sauk City. It was then that Mrs. Bruno began doing volunteer work at Maplewood Nursing Home. In 2008, she was honored by the Bank of Prairie du Sac as a Hometown Hero, for the more than 8,500 hours of volunteer service she had accumulated. She continued this work until shortly before her death.
Mrs. Bruno is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Bruno, of Merrimac; her dearly-loved grandchildren, Anne and Aaron Campbell and Tony and Shelly Bruno and her adored great-grandchildren, Grayden and Grace Campbell, all of Blaine, Minn. She is further survived by two special nieces and their families, Elaine and Richard Shemanske, of Davidson, N.C. and Ellen and Jim Kelly, of Raleigh, N.C., as well as friends too numerous to mention, who have been kind to her over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters and one brother.
To honor her wishes, a private family service will be held. Memorials may be directed to the activity department at Maplewood Nursing Home or the Sauk Prairie Taxi Service.
— The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Thomas Varley and the staff at Maplewood Nursing Home for the loving care they gave to her.
