Columbus High School senior to be 'Public Enemies' extra
By TERRI PEDERSON, Staff Reporter
A Columbus High School senior may not have any problems being around the action on Monday when "Public Enemies" is shot in downtown Columbus. Nick Skalitzky, the son of Ruth Skalitzky, was chosen as an extra in the movie staring Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard and Christian Bale. The movie is about the Federal Government attempting to take down famed gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd in the 1930s. Skalitzky said he is not allowed to give out details about the shoot or tell when or where he will be filmed, but he is excited about the opportunity. "I'm thrilled," Skalitzky said. "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in a movie that has Johnny Depp in it and is partially being shot in my hometown." He was one of the hopefuls who showed up to Monona Terrace in February to try out for a role in the film. "I was always a big fan of movies and Johnny Depp," Skalitzky said. "And I caught wind of the auditions from my cousin. I had my picture taken and then I got a call a week ago, and they told me that I was selected for a role in the movie." Recently, Skalitzky said he was fitted for his wardrobe in the movie and given a haircut. "My mom said my haircut is just like my grandpa's was back when he was my age," Skalitzky said. "I wasn't too surprised about the clothes that they chose with the theme being in the Depression. I knew what to expect." Fellow classmates also noticed Skalitzky's new hairstyle. "My friends have joked that I'll be famous and they want my autograph," Skalitzky said. "But it is done in playful fun." Skalitzky will be in luck if he is in scenes in the movie that are shot on Monday. The Columbus School District will be on spring break that week.
