Small Trailways roundup: Neu, Falcons blast Oaks
By Citizen Staff
HUSTISFORD — Austin Neu had five touchdown passes and was 13-of-17 for 168 yards as Hustisford blasted Oakfield, 43-0, in Friday's nonconference football game. The Falcons (1-0) opened up with three touchdowns in the first five minutes, including a 26-yard fumble recovery from Brennon Peltier. "We got off to a great start," Hustisford coach Dan Simon said. "For any high school coach, that's about as good as you can start your season with three scores." Field position dictated the game as Hustisford recovered four fumbles while Neu pinned the Oaks (0-1) deep in their own territory. The senior had three punts that averaged 47 yards per kick. "We had a fumble return and three other recoveries that set us up in great position," Simon said. Simon was also pleased with his team's defense. Outside of two long runs late in the game from Oakfield, the Falcons held the Oaks under 80 yards of total offense. Hustisford heads to Dodgeland next Friday. The Toppers (0-1) were their own worst enemy in the first half as Laconia (1-0) rolled out to a 14-0 halftime lead. C-F lost two fumbles and had eight penalties for 50 yards. "We self-destructed on a few drives," C-F coach Jim Bylsma said. "I would describe the first half as shooting ourselves in the foot. "Every big play we had came back on a penalty it seemed." C-F did manage two touchdowns in the second half from Jose Zavala and John Cupery. The Toppers host Marshall next Friday. "We looked slow and we looked tired," Fall River coach Brian Zacho said. "We didn't play real well. "Wauzeka was more physical and two long plays broke our backs. We have a lot of work to do." The Hornets held a 463-77 edge in total yardage. The Pirates' lone score came on a 17 yard pass from T.J. Patrick to Dylan Rabl. Sam Agnew had three catches and an interception for Fall River, which visits Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah next week.
