Small Trailways roundup: Rio stops Randolph

RIO — Rio's Matt Selje scored two touchdowns, including a 70-yard scamper with 2 minutes, 15 seconds left to lift the Vikings past Randolph, 28-7, in Friday's Small Trailways opener.

Selje finished with 176 yards on 25 attempts.

"All his carries were about the same," Randolph coach Zach Kouba said of Selje. "He found the hole and was off to the races."

Randolph (1-2, 0-1 Small) held tough after a rough first half. Down 13-0, the Rockets turned it around with an 11-yard touchdown run from Nate Buss late in the third quarter.

"We picked it up and played a lot better in the second half," Kouba said. "We started to make a game of it but lost it late."

Brian Kampstra had 82 yards on the ground for the Rockets, who head to Hustisford next Friday.

Rio improves to 3-0 and 1-0.
