Pet owners can call after kennel fire

A 125-foot by 50-foot dog kennel about a mile east of Beaver Dam was destroyed by a four alarm fire Friday night that left 22 animals dead.

The business is a boarding kennel owned by Margarita Files. Files said kennel records were destroyed, so she has been unable to contact all of the animal owners. Pet owners are asked to call 262-893-6284.

Files purchased the business in 2007.

Beaver Dam Fire Department responded to the fire at Moa's Everafter Kennels, W7786 Highway E, at 6:40 p.m.

A portion of Highway E was closed off so officials could fight the fire.

The north and south sides of the building were fully engulfed in flames and the west end of the roof collapsed before the fire was put out.

Tall flames were visible on the western end of the building when the fire department arrived and they immediately called for mutual aid from Horicon, Burnett, Juneau, Fox Lake, Waupun and Lowell fire departments.

Files told officials that 25 animals were being boarded at the kennel. Authorities said 21 dogs and one cat were killed.

The kennel provides dog and cat boarding and grooming, doggie daycare and features indoor and outdoor runs and a 36,000-square-foot play area. According to the Web site at www.moadobes.com, they breed champion Doberman Pinschers and Chinese crested dogs.
