Michalovitz unanimous in Flyway
By Citizen Staff
Opponents in the Wisconsin Flyway could not keep Horicon's Mike Michalovitz from reaching base this season. That's why the senior infielder was a unanimous selection to the all-Flyway baseball team this season. "If Mike didn't get on base, I was surprised," Horicon coach Jeff Wolf said. "He always hustled and gave everything he could." Michalovitz hit .471 (16-for-34) in conference play, had an on-base percentage of .667 and slugged .941. The second-team all-district selection had four doubles, four home runs, 11 RBIs and scored 12 runs from the leadoff spot in the lineup. "It's unusual for a leadoff hitter to lead in all those categories," Wolf said. "He just gave the team confidence when he was up at bat." For the season, Michalovitz slugged 1.000 with six homers and 16 RBIs while hitting .538. But Wolf said Michalovitz's best attribute was his leadership. "Mike was very talented but he was also one of the most coachable athletes I've had," Wolf said. "He worked as hard as he could and other players saw that." Mayville junior outfielder Dustin Langsdorf was also a first-team selection while junior infielder Kevin Goard made the second team.
